The Trent Rowing Club ‘Master’s squad travelled to Nottingham at the weekend to compete at the Nottingham City Masters and Club Regatta being held at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont.  In conditions that compared to rowing on the North Sea due to the heavy following wind and the continued threat of thunderstorm, the Burton crews were not deterred from competing.

Despite putting in good performances on the day the Women’s Single Sculler was off the medal position, and Women’s Double Sculls finished only one and a half seconds behind the second boat.

The Trent Women’s Coxless Quadruple Sculls who were using the event as part of their preparation for the National Championships Regatta being held in June at the same venue, finished behind the Exeter ladies who won the event.

The Clubs Men’s squad was represented on the day by Lee Newbold and Luke McDonagh competing in the Double Sculling event.  Up against Derwent Rowing Club from Derby and Star Rowing Club based in Bedford, the Trent double came off the start well and pulled slightly ahead of their opposition on the 1,000 metre course.  At the 250mts marker the Derwent boat had dropped off the pace, leaving the Trent and Star doubles to battle it out.  The two boats kept neck and neck down the course; at 800mts the Trent boat kept to their race plan and pushed for the line, and stroke by stroke managed to pull ahead crossing the line one boat length ahead to win the event.
