Trent Rowing Club crews raced on home waters last weekend over a distance of 3,500 metres. Trent athletes competed in all categories over the day, and dominated the whole event winning 9 of the 23 events, as well as claiming the fastest crew of the day.

The junior team brought home medals in the Men’s J17 double sculls (Callum Bell, Sam Smith), the Women’s J17 quadruple coxless sculls breaking the course record (Ella Wycherley, Beth McQuoney, Eloise Rose, Millie Benton), as well as a new course record being set in the Women’s J17 double sculls by Eloise Rose and Sophie Carlton-Greaves.

The seniors lifted trophies in both the Men’s and Women’s double sculls (James Cordon, Matthew Poutney, and Jade Smith, Jasmin Smith), the Women’s quadruple coxless sculls (Jade Smith, Jasmin Smith, Beth McLocklin, Laura Kristiansen), as well as both Charlotte Warren-French and Sophie Carlton-Greaves racing above their age category to win the Ladies single sculling events.

The clubs Master’s squad were not to be left out by winning the Masters C quadruple coxless sculls and also setting a new course record for the event (Shaun Carlton-Greaves, James Russell, Lee Newbold, Luke McDonagh).

Competitive tension grew within the Trent club at the end of the day while awaiting the result of the fastest crew of the day, the two contenders being the Trent Masters quad and the Trent Senior Men’s quad.  The senior crew made up of Callum Bell, Sam Smith, James Cordon and Matthew Poutney just took it by 1 second over the eleven minute race!

The race started at the Riverside Pub in Branston, and finished downstream at the Ferrybridge in Stapenhill.  The event which attracted 70 crews from all over the midlands region is one of two annual rowing events held in Burton.
