2018 November: Trent 'Soar' to Victory

Trent Rowing Club travelled to Loughborough Boat Club last Saturday to compete at the Head of the Soar Regatta. Competing in all classifications across all age groups, the local club finished the day as the most success club for the second consecutive year, as well as breaking three course records.

Charlotte Warren-French and Sam Smith racing in the Women’s and Men’s Junior 16 single sculls events were the youngest members to win their events, with Smith setting a new event course record for his group.  Beth McQuoney competed in the Women’s Junior 17 single sculls, who also smashed the previous course record set by Trent back in 2013 to lift the trophy in her event.

Smith teamed up with Callum Bell who raced up a category to compete in the Senior Men’s double sculls event, and beat the Becket double from Nottingham by a margin of 10 seconds.  The two Trent lads then joined forces with team mates James Cardon and Henry Carlton-Greaves who also won the Senior quadruple sculls event, making it a hattrick for Smith.

Jade Smith and Beth McLocklin representing the Senior Women’s squad, entered the Double Sculls event and beat Leicester Rowing Club by nearly a minute over the 3000 meter upstream course.

The Master’s Squad quadruple scull made up of Shaun Carlton-Greaves, James Russell, Lee Newbold, and Luke McDonagh comfortably won their event competing against five other crews, setting also a new course record as well as being recorded the fasted crew of the whole day.
